Mk3 top end rattle

Postby tigi » Fri Aug 14, 2015 6:18 pm

Hi folks,
I am having a problem identifying a rattle coming from the top of my engine. It's a 2006 1.8 74.000k. We have eliminated HLA,and Big End noise.
I am now wondering if it may be Timing Chain tensioner or Inlet Manifold tumble/swirl flaps.
Have any of you folks encountered problems these problems on mk3's and is there any easy way to check them.

There are problems with belt tensioners on those cars. These can be noisy.

Not heard of timing chains causing problems.

Sounds like the tensioner.
