Mk2 Oil leak and valve seal issues

Postby kevham » Sun Aug 23, 2015 8:42 pm

Ok - 2 issues I'd like to resolve in my Mk2 RS sprint car over the winter:

1. Oil leak from front of engine - very slight weep on alternator side, evident after car has sat for a few days. cam seals apparently done when cam belt changed back in March. Could this be valve cover gasket or crank seal?

2. Smoke on overrun - most likely valve stem seals? Can these be changed without removing the head? If so, what are the special tools needed and is there a good guide somewhere on how to do it?

oil leak from drivers side could be.
oil filter not sealed correctly
oil pressure switch leaking
crank oil seal rocker gasket.

Give it a good clean off mate and get a torch in there see if you can see it dribbling from anywhere .

The leak is from the front - not the side. It only does it after a sprint/Hillclimb when its been revved hard. I'll have to get the covers off to see where but I suspect the valve cover gasket.

As for the valve stem seals, I'm probably better sourcing another engine.....

I know where there is a good R.S/V.S engine. :handgestures-thumbup:
As for the leak at the front...cam seals or crank seal.

Just to close this off, the leak at the front was down to the valve cover gasket. It was an aftermarket one and I replaced it with the much superior Mazda version which cured the leak.

Valve stem seals still puff on overrun but I met a previous owner of the car who told me it had being doing that 5 years ago! :auto-layrubber:
