Not so much a problem but a problem question perhaps!!

Postby blackyb » Wed Mar 16, 2016 9:47 pm

A while ago, after visiting Wayne Mansion, it was suggested by Da Boss, to look at fitting an actual temperature gauge rather than rely on the one fitted as standard to a 1991 Eunos.

Well not wanting to cut pipes to fit one, I then took further advice and bought one of the small rad caps with a built in temp gauge, maybe not as precise as option one, but there you go.

I have not had (not that I am aware of) any over heating problems, but today while giving her a once over after a run out, I thought to myself, at what temp should the fan cut in, so that's the question to you techy guys and gals.

On the rad gauge, the fan kicked in at 90c does that sound about right???

That sounds about right. And the thermostat should open at around 80 C.

Yep thats about right, but for the sake of a pipe tight ar*e get it cut and fit one, as the rad cap gauge cannot be seen from the cab, and is more of a tool while working on the engine, and a talking piece, but personally i would not trust it sat on the rad for good.

Hi MM,
Good to see you the other week - especially the intel about fitting a proper temperature gauge to protect the motor. I expect this is an easy Mod and one I'm definitely going to attack this winter whilst the Black-uns off the road. I guess the sensor just fits in-between a cut Rad hose but would be good to know which one to buy (reliable, good value, easy to fit, etc). Has an article been created? If not, I can do one when I sort mine if you want ( but maybe no point if I'm the last one to realise this needs doing) ?

P.S. Do you have that link for the bonnet lifters that were on your sons MX5? Defo want a couple of those. They do the job perfect and will avoid me re-mortgaging the house to afford the ones on MX5-parts!
