New locks and immobiliser?

Postby noisebod » Tue Apr 11, 2017 10:36 pm

Ok so I successfully got into the locked boot to retrieve my missing keys (many thanks to M-m for the good advice) - but they weren't there!!!!

Still searching but if i don't find the keys it will be a new lock set AAAArrrrggghhhhh!

My question is - is my immobiliser factory fitted and will i need to replace the ecu along with the locks?

Its a 1995 Mk1 1.8 manual UK spec with an immobiliser which needs a 'coin battery' like fob to disarm.

Any advice gratefully received............

Not 100% on this one but I think they were fitted in the UK on that age of car.

Going to add to the confusion.

Our 1998 UK spec 1.6 had no such thing as a key fob to activate the factory fitted alarm.

It didn't even have remote central locking, not sure if this helps or just muddies the waters.

Thanks guys, not esp helpful but thanks for trying!!!!

The question remains - if it is a factory fitted (which seems likely), to change the locks inc ignition barrel, will i have to replace the ECU?

Not sure on a 95. However when our 2003 svt had an egr issue that fried a circuit on the ecu, I didnt have to change the locks or ignition when fitting the replacement ecu, I just had to recode the keys which once I understood how, was easy. There was a topic on here that explained how to.

Wayne will be along and he will be better placed to give you the correct advice.

Need to see which system it is? remove the glove box and you should see some small black boxes with Mazda in white on them? let me know, if it is then it is easy enough to remove, and then get the drivers side door barrel out and get the number off it for a new key to be cut.
