Thermostat???

Postby Mazz1957 » Sat Nov 18, 2017 8:45 pm

Hiya all. My '97 NA 1800 seems to take ages to warm up in the morning, not good as it is my daily and it's getting colder these days at daft o'clock in the morning. Could it be the thermostat? It only seems to have started happening lately. Thanks for any advice. :text-thankyouyellow:

Do you mean the engine? or the heating in the cab?

Both really. The gauge takes ages to register, about four or five miles then the heat starts coming through into the cab :confusion-confused:

sounds like thermostat slow to open, could also be a partially blocked radiator, if you renew the thermostat, flush the system, and when clean put new anti freeze in it. hopefully sorted. you can check the old thermostat by putting it in a pan of boiling water to see if it opens or not, sounds like its only partially opening.

I’d say other way around. Thermostat stuck open so it’s always allowing the coolant to run through the rad. If it was stuck shut you would have overheating problems and a very hot heater.

I’ve just run it up for a few minutes outside and the rad is getting warmer than the engine so I’ll put a new ‘stat in this week
Cheers all :text-thankyouyellow: :text-thankyouyellow:

Stuck open then. Rad should stay cold until engine is up to around 80c.
