Mk2.5 Tyre Rubbing on Full Lock

Postby Sidney » Sun Dec 24, 2017 12:13 am

Hi all I have had my car for 18 months and have recently heard and frlt the NSF tyre rubbing on the wishbone on full lock and going forward. The boot on wishbone has new bushes and ball joint.

Not been an issue before so feel something is not right. Is this a know symptom??

I used to own a 2.5 and never suffered from this.

Is she on the correct size of tyre firstly?

You dont say if this is happening while trsvelling forwards or backwards but in any case it sounds to me as tho there is a fault on the front suspension unit that is allowing the axle to move backwards and forwards.

Get her up in the air on a two post lift if you can and use a pry bar on the various suspension components to see if you can generate movement.

If you cant get access to a two poster, you could just try a more basic approach. Stick the handbrake on then take hold of each front wheel in turn and try and roll it bacwards and forwards.

Yes it’s when you are pulling into a parking space (going forwards) and I have checked. The tyre (which is standard 16” on the factory rims for the Sport model) rubs on the seam of the pressed wishbone.

Totally agree with Mm.

Some thing is out of kilter, if you cant generate any movement then something has to be bent, either way I would also expect to see excessive wear to the aforementioned tyre.

A four wheel alignment check might give you some idea as to what to look at.

Have you hit any of the million's of council run pot holes.

Do you know if it has been used as a drift-car at some point? Might someone have fitted... whatever it's called... that allows extra steering lock for drifters?
