Ok its a little dark after work but attached photo of front (im sure its mk2, it has no fog lamp holes in bumper)

I've also attached a piccy of the fuse box to the bottom right of the steering wheel - definitely no OBDII socket, I've had my head in there searching for it - its not under the bonnet release latch either

And lastly a picture of the grey 'diagnostics' box (located above passenger side wheel arch, under bonnet)

That looks like the socket on a mk1, so you will need to get onto autolink and buy one of the flash tests devices.

I could be wrong ?

The OBDII reader will not work on her ,she is a late Mk2 version to be sold with an RS/VS/sport/10th Anniversary nose cone fitted as they cleared atock...
If you send it off to me i'll get a correct reader out to you..

Hooked up the electronic diagnosis LED kit that was kindly sent to me (thanks!) and did not read any flashes. The diode just stayed lit.

I am confident that it was correctly set up with a bridge over GND & TEN and the diode over FEN (-ve) & +B (+ve). Key turned half way (no ignition). No flashes, just solid light until it was turned off.

Here is a picture of the set up incase any of you guys can see an obvious mistake?


Reading through the info pack I see it says 'Diagnosis of a faulty immobiliser is beyond the scope of this manual...' so I was unsure what to expect from carrying out the test, seeing as the initial garage initially told me that it is likely an immob fault.

I do not feel any closer to getting her back on the road - is there anything else I can try before spending loads of £££s??

Mechanicals are my 1st choice as I despair at auto rlectrics, I leave the diagnostics to my mate but from what I have read so far would support your view in an immoboliser fault.

Mm is your man but the distance from Mm HQ doesnt help.

The LED should light up and go out when the ignition is turned on....if it as lit solid then it is not reading the ECU and looks like where the fault is..youhave checked for water under the carpet on the passenger side foot well as the ECU hates the stuff..because the immobiliser speaks to the ECU etc they are all bonded together...mazda will want at least 2.5 k from you to fix....but it can be done a lot cheaper and by yourself...there is a walk through guide on the subject to help... you need the large numbers and letters off the ECU...

Hello again.

I have re-done the LED test with some more suitable cable and in better light. (in my last post I said that the LED lit up and simply stayed lit but this is wrong -apologies!)

I can now clearly see that the LED lights up for 3 seconds when the ignition is turned to on - followed by NO flashes.

Does this suggest that there are no faults to be read?

I have also had another look for damp under the passenger carpet and still no trace of water.

Should I proceed with removing the ECU cover in order to read the big numbers/letters?

Alex, from what you have just said I believe she is showing no faults within the ECU which doesn't help you in solving the issue your having.

I honestly don't know what to suggest trying next, as I have said I am not hot on auto electrics, and use a local chap who is, doesn't help you when we are up in the wilds of North Yorkshire.

Don't give up the fight, someone will have a bright idea and solve it for you.
