MXX5 Mk3 windows go down at random

Postby mgb » Thu Mar 15, 2018 12:55 am

Hello, I'm new to this forum and have a problem.

The electric windows in both doors have started to go down at random, it has now got to the point where both windows drop about 4 inches when the engine is started, the lights on the switches go out, when they come back on again, the windows can be put back up, however as you are driving along, they will drop again by about 4 inches and then drop some more, sometimes going all the way down. I have noticed that as you drive along, the lights on the switches go off and then back on again.

I assume this is the controller, does this sound likely? I have been told that the controller is built into the switches, is this the case?

Yeap it sounds like the switch unit, now with the NA and NB mazsters you can take the switch unit apart to repair, not dealt with a MK 3 one so unsure if that can still be the case?, but there are loads in breakers now to get your hands on a S/hand switch unit and swap it out, then because we can ,,,see how the old one comes apart and what was wrong...dry solder joint? dirty contacts on the switches? plastic lug broken which is common on the NB's.
