New pads or calliper problem?

Postby mk1divemaster » Mon Jul 02, 2018 5:46 pm

Hi all , so I've started replacing pads on front and rear of my Eunos and came to a hurdle straight away. I don't think my front left calliper piston is going back as far as it should ,or is it my new pads are too thick? I've used a winding tool to push it back but it doesn't get flush to the body it stands proud about 3mm is this right ? Or should it go right back in? Any help and advice would be appreciated :confusion-confused:

It should go flush, as a guide, they should go back the same on both sides, if ones sticking out more than then other then you could try pumping it out and then squeeze it back in, its probably a ring of rust on the piston hidden under the rubber cover, we have sometimes managed to free them up for customers who don't want to lay out the cash, but for me, if it is sticking then I would plump for a new caliper (you could if brave enough go down the line of a new piston and seal set - I did a pair on one of my now departed MX5s)

1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!

It should push back flush...i know you have sorted this now Mark after all the negativity towards the problem and with any luck your fix ( keep us up to date)... what i will say is stay well clear of the copy calipers if it does end up going that route, they are dangerous buddy...your life and passenger is worth far more .

Cheers Wayne, I was just inquisitive that he'd got brand new callipers at such a low price ! I've looked at your thread on them and totally agree that no one should go near them. My brakes seem to be ok at moment no loss of fluid , I've bought a set of new seals for both callipers just in case , looking forward to doing them actually! Cheers buddy
Will get round to posting my fix on here soon :handgestures-thumbup:
