Hi Guys, just a quick question about the cooling fan.
My fan seems to come on extremely regularly in as much whenever I get out of the car it seems to be running. there is no evidence of overheating, the temp guage sits in the normal position. When idling the fan kicks in and out as you would expect. The hoses are fine, I replaced the radiator and that has made no difference and the water level remains constant. I understand that normally when the fan sensor on the thermostat fails the fan would not work but can it fail where it encourages the fan to kick in more than would normally be required? As the car runs fine is this something I should ignore? By the way the car has never had an engine undertray.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Just in case I missed it, are we talking in terms of a mk1.

The problem here is that you are looking at the temp gauge...it is not and never will give you a true reading...it is dampered.....so when you park up Ă nd still running does the fan go off after a short while or carries on for good ?

After a while the fan will switch off but then swith on and off as required.
