Mk1 1.6 Rocker cover gasket seal?

Postby Creepy » Sun Nov 11, 2018 11:25 pm

During the summer months I noticed a small oil leak from the back of the rocker cover/CAS area, which is causing an occasional drip on the floor. That's gotta be the CAS O Ring I thought? I decided to wait until the cars SORN'd for the winter before sorting. However, it now transpired upon closer inspection it's actually the rocker cover that's failing. As per MMs excellent post on CAS O ring and rocker gasket replacement he mentions putting some sealant in the corners.

i.e.. MM notes "There is also a big who cares about automotive sealant in the corners,,,,,IF you have removed all the old factory blobs on the head then it is recommended to apply fresh before putting the cover back on."

The question is where do I put the silicone gasket sealant if I'm fitting a new (genuine Mazda) gasket? I THIINK its on the vertical corners but could do with some advice please. There's no evidence of sealant on the old gasket or rocker cover so not entirely sure if it's needed and where to put it?

Also , for the sake of a couple of quid I guess it also worth replacing the CAS O ring whilst I'm at it ?

P.S. Whilst I've got the rocker covoer off I wonder if it worth cleaning and spraying? Is this a home or professional job ? If a home job - has there been a post on it?

Cheers in advance.

The blobs go in the corners....rocker and CAS seals are easy to do....painting the rocker is easy enough to do at home and so many choices to choose ...doing the correct preparation is the key to it all.....i though i added a vid of the last one i did for myself???.
I'll see if i can find it ...

Perfect, thanks for the advice MM. As always much appreciated. I'll let you know how it goes. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

P.S, How do I go about getting some of your Jiza Clean to get rid of the oil at the back of the engine (suspect I'll need to removed the coil pack assembly).
