Mx5 mk2.5 2003 wont crank

Postby Mickybuns09 » Wed Nov 14, 2018 8:43 am

Car has been sitting for two years after not starting , I have changed the battery, I have changed the ecu, immobiliser and ignition barrel / key with a second hand matching set. The immobiliser light on the dash flashes when locked and turns off when unlocked so I believe it’s working correctly. When you turn the key, there are a couple of quite clicks but it won’t turn over.
Where do I look next please?

Corroded starter motor ring terminal and kick wire connection.
What voltage is your battery showing, are the inside of the battery post terminals clean.
Remove check clean and resecure the neg cables.
There are a multitude of possibilities, start with the obvious ones before ripping everything apart.

Vented bonnet.
Quad tipped exhaust.
Stebel horn.
More cosmetic bits than you can shake a stick at.
Switchbacks fitted.
And yes it is a Sunday car.

No codes on the reader
Can’t check spark as not turning over.
Haven’t checked fuel yet
New battery and posts are clean

To do
check voltage
Clean starter motor terminals
Clean neg terminals

Thank you for your help, I will get back to you when I have done the above

Cheers

Got it started today, wire was off the solenoid, started on the first go, running sweet considering it’s been standing for 2 years
Cheers for the help. Disks and pads next!

Congratulations, replace the engine oil and filter if the car has been standing for two years .
Also i would take the wheels and calipers off and wind the pistons in a couple of times, Calipers and pistons have a tendency to corroded 'stick' if not used.
