Changing mk3 dipped beam bulbs from above

Hi,

Thought I'd write up how it is possible to change both H7 bulbs from inside the bonnet rather than removing wheel liners as the manual suggests.

For the RH, unbolt the washer bottle (1x10mm bolt, 1x10mm nut, unclip the wiring and washer hose, wiring to the washer motor can stay connected)
Remove the rubber boot, then unhook the spring clip which is underneath the bulb.

Best to do the RH first as the LH access is trickier and hard to see what to do unless you know from the RH side . . .

Remove the 3 x 10mm nuts on the fuse box. The nut nearest the air intake had rusted too much to get a socket on, I used Plus Gas and a Irwin nut remover. Lift the fuse box off its captive threads and push back an inch or two, just enough to get your hand in and unclip. Photograph/note carefully which way up it goes in.

Some judicious swearing later (I have XL sized hands) and night time visibility restored!

And even if you do it the conventional way by going through the wheel arch liner, you still need to be a double jointed contortionist, bl**dy hands which ever way you do it.

This only cements the case for buying good quality bulbs and not cheap e-bay, halfrauds or Chinese as you will have to do it again sooner rather than later.
