centre exhaust for 6 speed

Postby chadz » Tue Dec 11, 2018 6:03 pm

Hi,

I've got a big problem trying to locate a centre section exhaust for my 6 speed roadster. The bit between the cat and the back box. Been on to mx5 spares in Pompy but they have not been able to help. Mazda would charge £600+ for this but state that they do not expect this part to be available (ever). A Certain creek without a paddle springs to mind. Short of having a specialist company make one, anybody have a contact or solution for this prob?

Thanks,

Chadz :text-thankyouyellow:

I am guessing you are talking about a Mk2 NB mid section with a cat...as they are the hardest to get ...

The Mk 2 NB and the Mk2.5 NB both had 6 spd versions...but the midsection on the Mk2 NB is the same on the 5 spd/6spd 1.8 and 1.6...The Mk2.5 NB as its cat on the down pipe so the mid section just as a silincer which is the same on that version 5 spd/6spd 1.8 and 1.6.

Yes a mk2 NB 1998. As far as I know the cat is not part of the centre section. The centre section fits between the cat and the rear transverse box.. I think - doh!
Any way round this prob??? I just can't see why these centre section exhausts are on a par with rocking horse poo!

Then the mid section is a silencer and cat section...there are two S/steel sections i know are easy to get a M2 de-cat mid section....moss Europe have a S/Steel silencer with a cat.
Another option is fit a Mk 2.5 full system...easier to get...just blank off the after cat sensor.

Thanks. Moss couldn't help. Don't want to replace whole system and a catless centre would fail the mot. Looks like a custom centre only if I can find somebody to make it.

Looks like this product includes the cat - not required. My ride was registered March 1998 so unlikely to fit. Are you installing this on a 6 speed mk2 1.8 ? Would like to see some pics of the installation.

Thanks bud

Sorry i am confused  ..yours is a Mk2 NB...so regardless of it being a 1.6 ,1.8 5 or 6 spd box that is the mid section to fit a mk2 1998 to 2001..you can get a decatted mid section for the Mk 2 NB's in s/steel also but will fail the MOT emissions test...and the OE mid section is a one piece..the cat is part of it.

The mid section for the Mk2.5 NB from 2001 to 2005 1.6 ,1.8 VVT 5 or6 spd is a shorter mid section and does not have a cat as the cat is on the down pipe...

Are you sure we are not talking about a Mk1 NA here????but they were never a 6spd option only 5spd and Auto...the cats are a separate item on the Mk 1 NA's...

You have me confused buddy can you show me what you mean?.....are we talking about the same part here?

This mid section is with out a cat, your mid section will have a cat on it 100%, are you cutting it at the cat and joining this on?

I have change many zorats across the roadater range...i have just done a swap funny enough on the Mk2 VS NB 1.8 6 spd ( which from 1998 to 2001 regards of them being a 1.8 ,1.6, 5 Spd or 6 spd..jap import roadster or UK spec Mx5 that mid section is the same on them all) and took pictures for the build thread...this is the system that should be on that year, model, version regardless...

If not...then it as been changed for the Mk 2.5 version with the cat on the down pipe ??.
