Hi all, I've recently started up my NB again after having sold my NA a few weeks ago.
After putting it through the french MOT it was pointed out that the engine light was on (didn't notice it beforehand as somebody had removed the bulb on the dash).
The code that came up on the OBD is the infamous P1562.
After doing some reading it seems that it's usually caused by faulty connections to the ECU in the passengers foot well following water ingress.
As the car has been standing for some time that seemed the likely cause so I removed the carpet and got the ECU out.
The whole board is pretty worn/corroded but not wet or damp anymore.
1 pin was completely missing from the plug side and the corresponding right-angle-connection missing from behind, this is pin 4AG, as described on this post:
viewtopic.php?t=6486
On pin 4AD (just next to it) the right-angle-connector is still connected board-side but has broken away from the plug side.
I've managed to solder a wire to each of the offending pins on the board and connect them to the correct wires on the harness side (red/blue for 4AG and plain red for 4AD)
Continuity seems good, I do have battery voltage at 4AG with the engine on and off (just over 12v engine off and just under 15v with engine on, normal?)
However the engine code persists! It can be cleared but reappears instantly if the engine is running or as soon as it is turned on if not running.
My main questions are:
What is the purpose of pin 4AD (plain red in color), and could this pin still be faulty?
Are there any other pins I should check the condition/continuity of?
Are the voltages measured at pin 4AG correct?
On cranking the engine to start my meter reads a drop to about 10v at 4AG, but no where near the 2.5v that supposedly brings the code up, is the 2.5v limit correct?
On measuring continuity between 4AG and bare metal (earth) my meter doesn't make the normal "pinging" noise to indicate continuity, but some numbers are displayed, which makes me think there might be a very slight leak to earth from the 12v line from the battery to 4AG, any ideas where this might occur?
Thanks for any help with some/all of the questions!
What you put in, you'll get back ten fold

Re: Unknown ECU problem (P1562 related)
Are you sure all the connections are good with the pins and on the ECU itself...sounds like that is a very old fault that as never been investigated until your time as ownership...
Personally i would get some fresh plugs frrom a breaker first and solder it in so at least you know that part is good before moving on the the next bit.
