MX5 Mk3 little end gone

Postby Dave » Tue Mar 26, 2019 9:18 pm

Hi, bought this car private 18 months ago and realised quite quickly it had problems a few weeks after purchase i heard a clicking at around 3,500 revs as i put her into the garage. Main dealer visit right away and they were quoting over 3 grand for repair. having paid not much more than that and driven the car in i decided to tell them to put it back together and id take my chances. I've driven her fine for over a year keeping it to 3000 revs or just above. while this wasn't the kind of driving i wanted to do in the car was able to be a little fun in the lanes and would happily cruise at 70mph on motorways.
A few weeks ago pulling away my accelerator pedal momentarily got stuck under the floor mat (doh) and the revs went through the rough causing more damage and now the knocking is audible when idling. i realise ive probably got a screwed engine and advice ive got is that even a repair might be dubious and id be better off searching for a replacement engine? any thoughts? My car has done 58,000 and is sound and looks great apart from this errr little issue.
Since the worsening of this problem i have still driven the car for a number of weeks at even lower revs but it is off the road now due to MOT expiring and garage unable to test the emissions.
Any help or advice appreciated about which route to go, new engine or repair ? or garages in cheshire who might be skilled with Mx5's

Thanks in advance Dave
