Rust repair

Postby Jackus » Mon May 22, 2023 9:25 pm

Hi all,

So I've removed most of the interior and while its out I've got what seems like a fair amount of rust i want to try and sort (most i reckon due to the previously blocked drains, Is the ecu spot common?). Mostly in fairly accessible spaces but some in the folds of metalwork.
Ive done little bits here and there before but not much like this, it would be massively appreciated if someone could walk me through the process or any thoughts you have please? Want to do it right and hopefully only once!

Thank you :)

That is a simple sort, there is no need to start cutting and welding just yet , get the surface rust patches clean and back to metal, clean the whole areas and and get some good gloss exterior paint , the stuff you do metal fencing, gates and benches with and paint it, black is properly best and then you would of protected the floor pan, the carpet well cover it any way, but yes its common from blocked drainage trays/tubes, leaking roofs/seals and door membranes not sealed correct.

Perfect thanks for that Wayne. With the painting is there a need for a primer or rust preventer or anything like that at all? And when it comes to spraying should i try and section off the areas or sort of thin the coats out towards the edges? If that makes sense at all

Don't use spray paint, use paint and a brush, most of the metal fencing paint etc is an all in one because it is for exterior use, every now and then Aldi have some on offer which is really good.

Thank you again. So followed the above, when painting i only covered the sanded, rust removed areas as the full floor seemed like a waste but unsure if that would be better?
