Sounds like a big end bearing has pooed itself. if so, replace the bearings and check to see why the last one failed. usually poor lubrication is to blame.

Was it some thing a drift behind one of the lower pulleys/alternator or cooling fan knocking???? :confusion-confused:

It was simply a case of the bottom engine cover loose(bolt missing) on one side which made it hit the crank wheel and the engine block,,,,cure is a simple fit a new bolt.
