ABS sensor ghetto fix...

Postby Shaggy » Tue Apr 14, 2015 11:20 pm

Hi folks!
Not long after i bought my mk2 last year i had the flickering (soon to be constantly on) ABS warning light.
Checked diagnostics and it was front left failure!
Thanks to the write ups on here i had the confidence to remove the offending broken one (completely destroying it in the process... that'll teach it, etc.), but i was horrified at the price of a replacement part!
Trawled the internet and eventually decided to take a gamble on a quite-random-but-looked-right-in-the-picture sensor from Amazon of all places for about ÂŁ10.
The cable and connector weren't going to plug-n-play but the plan was to just use the sensor 'head' itself spliced into the original wire.
Suffice to say it worked a treat, saved me a hundred-odd quid and is still ok a year later! :-D
It was something along these lines on Amazon:- "95680-2D050 New Rear Left Wheel Speed ABS Sensor Anti-Lock Brake"
Took a couple of weeks to arrive from Hong Kong but a cheap fix/mod for an annoying problem!
Soldering/heat shrink/electrical tape and bob's your uncle!

Hope this'll be of use to anyone else who doesn't fancy spending crazy money to get a dash light to turn off....

Cheers fellow menders! :handgestures-thumbup:
