Have You Owned Other Make Convertibles?

Postby DavesBRG5 » Sat Jul 21, 2012 8:51 pm

Just come across this old pic of me & one of my old MGBs in 1978  Few more grey hairs nowadays but my taste in cars hasn`t changed much.

So what other convertibles have you had before your 5s? Let`s see some pics & i`ll try & dig a few more out.

Nice collection Andrew!

Few more of mine....

One of two red Spitfires i owned in my teens. This one had a fastback hardtop. Ole bill used think it was a GT6 & ask how i could insure it at my age lol

Image

When we had 3 small kids i went out to buy an estate car & came home with this Cavalier Cabriolet

Image

Recent Astra Twintop. Lovely car but didn`t keep it long. Scared stiff the complex roof mechanism would go t!ts up every time i pressed the button

Image

My first Spitfire & first convertible which kicked off the addiction when i was 18.

I had one of those too. A BRG one of course! Used to wedge a carrycot on the back bench seat back in the day before seatbelt enforcement. I fitted a glass sunroof to it, does that count as a convertible?

Never owned a convertible before my 1st MX5 but I did have this old thing:
Image

1971 Rover P6 2000TC.
The engine died so I swapped it with a 2200TC engine which promptly also dies so I had it rebuilt with rebores, oversized pistons and a pair of dual Webber carbs ("borrowed" from Lotus where I worked at the time). After that it went like the clappers! Never should have sold it really, it was a lovely car :(

A couple, but to be honest it was an attempt by the so called MG experts to solve a problem that was eventually cured by a £10 bottle of K-seal!!!

I'm one of the rare mx5 owners that still likes the MGF. Terrible I know but there you go. Part of my daily fun is comparing the 2 cars. Loving the mx5 though and it is like new.

2006 2.0 Sport in Copper Red

How many times do I have to say "No it's not a hairdresser's car...."

Haven't owned many cars but most have been convertibles of some sort. First was a TR7 (rusty, unreliable, broke down a lot) then - not to be outdone by my brother - a TR7V8 (not so rusty, still broke down a lot, never learnt) and then saw sense and went jap with my MR2 T-Bar (ok, so strictly speaking not a convertible but the t-bar was as near as dammit.
