Pete's got an oily smell in the cabin

Postby MrChrome » Sun Oct 14, 2012 12:19 pm

Pete's just mentioned an oily smell he gets in the cabin when the car's really warm. He's been getting it since he sorted the radiator.

He says it smells like hot gearbox oil and the gear change feels different too...

Any ideas?

Time to replace the upper & lower gear shift boots & replenish the turret oil me thinks + the nylon cup on the bottom of the gear lever.

It must be the shift boots as suggested above but oil smells in the cabin can often also be the cam-cover gasket leaking oil that is running down onto the exhaust manifold where it burns off which causes a lot of smell, usually with little trace of oil to show for it.

Pete's just checked his upper and lower gear shift boots. He says it took ages to find all the screws to take the centre console out but there's nothing left of the lower boot and the upper has a great big hole in it.

He's changed them and reports no more smells....

Well done everyone....
