Ethanol I think, or at least a % added to unleaded, there are some more in depth responses over on the OC.

Most fuels already have some bio-fuel content and most manufacturers use it to boost the octane rating of their higher octane fuels. I think Tesco 99 mention it on the pumps so that's probably one that has higher bio-fuel content.

BIOFUEL - Potential problems

Postby Lazza » Wed Dec 21, 2011 10:34 am

It is good on modern cars. Higher octane, lower emissions and "greener" harvesting. It can damage the seals on older cars that aren't made for it though. I'm sure it wouldn't take much to replace the seals on an older engine though.

what seals exactly though.. it can only be injector / fuel line / tank related
In which case, it'd only take seconds to find some o-rings the right size etc.

When they stop making the fuel i need, then i'll worry about it to be honest, in the mean time ...burn some and enjoy.

Just been talking to AT on the OC over this......
http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/38100.aspx
So basically we will be buying cheaper made fuel for a dearer price which if we are not careful will screw up our roadsters over time?
I personally will be using super unleaded, but i wait to read what they are doing with that also, if you use this new fuel, BP will probably offer both at the pumps if the stories are true? E10 has a shelf life of 100 days before it will seperate in the tank, so draining it off will be needed, but what worries me with that,is what crap will we get at the pump with it being stood still in a tank? An additive will need to be used too hopefully protect the metal and seals? So still costing more, plus your MPG will rise also which means filling up more and more additive, I am sure the additive price will shoot up as it will become something we will need, so the makers will screw us for that.
Fuel filters will need to be changed a lot more, so I better do a 'how to' on that for all models.
Abroad have been using this for years, some nearly 10, and do not seem to be having anything bad to say? but MOT time will tell with emissions over here?
I think we all need to do some homework on this before we end up with big polished statues sitting on our driveways, but until I know more, at the minute I just see it as scare stories.

My girlfriend accidentally topped up our Roadster with E10 when we were in France recently - I almost refused to let her back into the car... then became even more panicked after googling a few articles like this:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/trave ... -fuel.html

Her French relatives assured us only repeated use of E10 could possibly do any damage, but for once I was glad when the fuel gauge read empty - we then treated the car to a nice tank of super unleaded to make up for it.
