The differences between the water pump outlet pipes, thermostat housing and tops..........
Left to right....

Mk 2.5 1.8cc-1.6cc, thermostat housing, note the wider pipe on the T piece and the thermostat opening is at the front......
Mk 1 1.8cc/ Mk 2 1.8cc-1.6cc, thermostat housing, note that the thermostat opening is at the front........
Mk 1 1.6cc, Thermostat housing, note that the opening for the thermostat is on the top.......

Common faults:- The body is made of alloy and the T piece steel, so the T piece rusts from the inside out causing a leak, the only cure is to replace the full unit.

Water pump outlet pipes....

The top one is for the Mk 2.5 1.8cc - 1.6cc, Note the wider curved small pipe.
The bottom one is for the Mk 1 1.6cc - 1.8cc, Mk2 1.6cc - 1.8cc, note the thinner L shaped welded small pipe

Common faults:- The body is made of alloy and the L shape and curve are metal, so they rust from the inside out causing a leak, only cure is to replace the full unit.
