I do all my work on my drive and this is just a quick guide to show how jo blogs can repair their sills without going to the big boys.
first of all you need to find all the rot and cut it out.
After cleaning out all the rot and drill wire brushing i then give 3 good coats of rust eater sealer
A metal patch is cut and shaped i use metal sheet from my local factors it cost next to nothing and welds well
I then shap it over a rubber mallet with another rubber mallet till its just right.
keep holding it up to the hole until the patch just fits on the hole you have cut
I then use strong pc hard drive magnets to hold it secure while i take it into place
here you can see the plate welded into place and ground back to give a smooth finish also note the hole drilled in the sill as i want to give the repair a good internal coat of cavity wax
i then give the whole repair a small smear of good body filler and rub it back just to smooth it out then a few coats of stone guard to protect it
I have owned my welder for about 2 years and have only welded about 5 sills and 2 exhasts it cost me ÂŁ50,00 and have had no training so it shows any one can do it and save loads.
What you put in, you'll get back ten fold

Re: sill repair on your drive
It is a job well done but I can't help but think that with the patch you have put in, from the second picture it looks like a fair bit of surface rust that goes a lot further that you can see sorry,
I can see this working for a mot for 12 months, we charge 75 for a patch for mot's
So unless you know someone with a welder you can borrow I can't see the point,
Like I said I'm not slating the work the final pic of it finished is fine it's just the during pics

I agree with Steve (above) But fair play to your good effort You need to be a bit unkind to the car first to get all the crap out

Re: sill repair on your drive
Can this be done with an ARC welder?
Was thinking of buying a 2nd hand one and giving this a go.
Got charged a small fortune last year for some cill welding at MOT and this looks like something I could tackle I think.
