Head Gasket Leak Detection Fluid.

Postby nedski » Wed May 07, 2014 1:27 pm

I've been using this stuff for years and it's very good.
Basically its a fluid that changes colour with "Carbon Dioxide" or simply "Combustion gasses".
You can only get combustion gasses in your water system if-
a, your head gasket has failed.
b, your head has a crack
c, your cylinder block is cracked.

Simply bung the tube ontop of your radiator and let any gas bubble through the liquid for 5 minutes.
If it stays blue all is well (probably). Overheating issues would then more likely be clogged radiator, stuck thermostat etc.
If it changes colour then you have a problem that's more likely within your engine like head gasket etc.

This was a quick test to confirm combustion gasses in the water system. The cylinder head is now coming off.
The blue bottle is the original colour and the green is how it's changed. Easy. :handgestures-thumbup:

This is an example from E bay

And this is the head gasket that was leaking from cylinder into the water jacket.

So if you have overheating problems or water being pushed into your header tank, then this is a useful product to confirm head gasket problems. Or to reassure yourself the engine is ok and maybe the radiator or thermostat is a more likely problem.
