Mx5parts cam locking tool for the Mk 1/2/2.5...

This is a honest review of a tool for a important job that any one could be selling ,so is not a personal attck at the above it is just that they sell it.
Well....
Not impressed with this and also their statment of use and what also can be done with it on their site,, when the cam wheels and crank are all lined up to the timing marks and you slid this tool in to the teeth of the cam wheels it is very loose/slack and has loads of play( like a co*k in a sock), personally I do not recommend this tool as I would have no faith in it doing this job the teeth will be out and will need some adjustment to get the belt on correct, i would have no faith in it locking up the cam wheels to crack the 14mm bolts, and also using plastic rip ties to hold the wheels in place for them to be removed , remember if you did this the cams will move out of timing any way, so you will still need another pair of hands to move the cam shafts with two 1" open ended spanners, while you try and align everything back up to be locked back into place which is not easy for an home fettler that is not 100% on the spannering, I would only use this in an emergency if I had no other choice and that would be under duress.

I have been asked if i sell my tool, sorry chaps i made that and it works and locks up 100% for the job, but all you need which is far cheaper, far more solid and safer than the little Alloy tool is just to get two 1" large open and ring spanners and a pair of mole grips and lock the cams up on the shafts with the rocker cover off any way as there is 1" (25mm) nuts cast into the shafts for use...

Mx5parts locking tool gets 3 out of 10, as it needs a bit more engineering for it to work 100% correct....
