I travel down to portsmouth and across le havre ( the only rest stop lol, wife goes on the plane as she knows i dont like stopping unless its dire lol) and down through france ,bordeaux, san sebastion, pamplona and across to valencia then down the coast to san javier, murcia, close to la manga !! done it as an eachway trip for the last four years for the mot, cars not really worth putting on spanish plates, but the weathers keeping the old girl tidy. off the ferry 0900am and at the site 0400 next day,19 hrs, absolutely crackered lol

Hi,

I have had a couple in the past, a brand new Astra Mk2 GTE Conertible (Opel Kadett E GSi as I was in Germany at the time) then just as I was leaving Germany to come back here I bought a cheap XR3i Convertible. Funny but both were in the same colour. No pictures of Kadett as Ex-wife has those. We gave the car back after about 5 months as every time it rained the light grey headlining was staining under the rear screen from the water coming in. Opel replaced the rear screen and seal but that didn't cure it and the next option was to send it back to Bertone in Italy for a new roof. We said no and swapped it for a regular 3 door GSi which I upgraded severely (I had plenty of money as I was working in Saudi at the time.) with just about everything that Irmscher made.

And I suppose this qualifies as a convertible too.

I've always had a thing for small cars not necessarily soft tops
I have had a mk1 MR2, a GTM coupe, and recently an MG Midget.

Love the Beetle. Looks really clean.
Did a 1000km weekend trip in a VW Kübel once with friends (German Bundeswehr reserves) when I lived in Germany. Had a great laugh. The guy I went with is actually looking for one now.

Thanks, she took 9 months to build (my VWs are in Pakistan btw). They are the best cars for such trips too. Many of us have had adventures in ours (diving to china, cross country rallys etc) in ours. They're addictive and one is never enough. Sadly prices are climbing drastically and they have become unrealistic as "fun" cars this was a big reason I bought a 5 when I moved here (clearly I didn't think the restoration expenses through either,... hahahha)
