Firstly thanks for the welcome guys.

The rally we will be doing is the Saltire Rally (based in Perthshire) which is a competitive event with road rally, regularity and autotest type elements. It is a historic event but we will be running in the Targa class for modern cars. First time doing this kind of event and it will be the first one in a MX5. My experience of stage rallies and autocrosses was mostly in Mk 1 Ford Escorts.

I will get some before pics up soon.

Spent my secondary school days in Fife, stil get up north occasionally. Looks like you are getting your Mk2 sorted.
It is usually water that gets trapped in behind the sills that cause the start of the tin worm. Did you take the outer sill part off to check the inside whilst in there? Always good to have to have new metal on both sides. The Mot tester would require it too.

Your rally sounds good. Did a bit of stocky saloon racing at Cowdenbeath in Mk1 Cortina days, long time ago.

Good Luck in getting her back to ship shape.

Speaking of new "metal"... that's what is needed on that sill. Sill repairs can't be done with fibreglass matting/filler. It's very close to the seatbelt mounting and rust and/or filler in that area is an mot fail as well as a much weakened section of what is a structural part of the chassis.

I am sure you will have done so, but when we did our now departed 2003 SVT with rot in the same area, we were advised to cut away a lot more than most may have done to ensure we were fixing good metal to good metal.

It was worth the extra work, and even tho we no longer own the car, I see it weekly and it still looks the dogs dodahs.

Was hoping to buy her back but they have no decided to keep it a while longer, I live in hope??

That sill repair will bring on even more problems by using GRP as all the rust has not been removed including from the wheel arch also and new metal welded in and repair sections and then the box section injected....
