It is either the transponder in the key or the immobiliser playing up.

The transponder has been mentioned before. The immobiliser light goes off on the dash when i open the door. I was talking to an electrician today who told me that the key recharges whilst being driven, never heard of this before, is he taking the proverbial?. I only have 1 key, would a new key solve the problem or at least rule it out if that is not the problem?

It gets wierder. Picked her up ans she would not start, kept disconnecting the battery, eventually she fired up. Got her home, turned her off, fired up again. Took key out and tried again, nothing. Mrs took me for my car and when we got back she said the mx wasnt close enough to the garage (GRRRRRRRR), so disconnect battery and she just kept turnng over, eventually pushed her closer to the garage. Took key out, got mrs to try her and she was turning over but not firing. Before she wouldnt even turn over after removing the key. I am totally flummoxed by all this and am going to have several large pints tonight to try to stop me from taking the chainsaw to it. I have to take the logbook to a locksmiths in the morning to see if he can rechip it. Once again, i will keep you updated.

Ok, so, for todays installment, i have removed my ECU, and checked all the wiring around it, everything seems to be dry and intact with no signs that it has ever been wet. There is a small black box just to the right of the unit with BURGALM written on it, is this the immobiliser, or is that the thing under the dash which i cannot get out?. I was thinking of replacing the whole lot, ecu, immobiliser, locks and barrel with a used set. Any ideas on this?, would it be a good idea?.

On my now departed 2003 SVT the immobiliser was under the dash. Unless yours has an after market one already fitted.

As Mm says, I replaced mine by following the guide on this forum.
1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.
