Stainless steel exhaust single exit

Postby chadz » Mon Nov 05, 2018 8:54 pm

Thinking of buying a stainless steel single exit exhaust from mx5 spares Portsmouth. Back box only. Problem is I'm not sure how this couples with existing centre pipe. As I haven't undone the nuts holding it to the centre pipe I don't know whether it's a stud/nut or removeable bolt system.
What I need to know is will this back box go on without mega fettling and if so what nuts/ bolts will be required.

Has anyone done this job?

Chadz. :confusion-confused:

When i replaced mine on a 2.5, 12 years ago i don't remember there being any problems, but what i would do now even if your only thinking about it is start soaking the nuts/studs with plus gas.
Marble White NC1 Icon.
Vented bonnet.
Quad tipped exhaust.
Stebel horn.
More cosmetic bits than you can shake a stick at.
Switchbacks fitted.
And yes it is a Sunday car.

Fitted stainless steel systems to all of my mx5s to date and never had any fitting issues a bit of lateral thinking couldnt resolve,

Only annoying issue I ever had was the one on our current mx catching the drive shaft, easily sorted by metal manipulation.

However none of ours have been from mx5 parts, all bought direct from Cybox who used to operate out of a unit on the Wirral.

1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!

I bought the MX5 Parts S/S manifold and full exhaust, so can't help too much. Just wish I could find a Cat Convertor that last more than 11 months.

If it is a MK 1 then it arrives with a mid section to bolt straight to the cat back, if it is a MK 2/2.5 then the back box only bolts straight to the OE mid section if the OE mid section is not rotten as 99% are at the connection point.
