Ok, just for future reference, i bought the key from fleabay, did the 3 times on/off and 3 times open/close door. It worked, but to start the car you need to get the transponder coded. £20 at my localish auto electricians. Job done.

I know the posters on oc were of little help, this is why i am asking here. The people on here seem to have more knowledge. I am a complete novice when it comes to electrical devices, so i have to ask others who may know better. I have read the instructions on the sellers ad, but i am still not sure...
