This is a WARNING and the fix before it happens to the MK 1 1.6/1.8 Automatic version Eunos Roadsters or Miata Roadsters....

This is a simple part to change, but if left can give you no end of trouble and headaches.

It is the Automatic gearbox diaphragm on the side of the gear box underneath...

Quick guide for that job that has to be done sooner or later as the rubber tears and the gearstick and surroundings get hot!

For the start you'll need 10mm socket, and a 10mm spanner, a philips screwdriver, (optionally a pair of pliers, turkey baster, some gearbox oil, vaseline/silicon lube...

A lot of Mk1 MX-5, Eunos, Miata, Roaster owners with Auto gearboxes will hit the problem of worn gear selector bushes, that can also bring on wear on other parts of the selector and in some cases stopping the Roadster from starting.

Loose auto gear shaft selector....
