This problem has been growing for a while now. The paint is blistering on the front bumper. I thought it was fibreglass but I realise it is plastic. I don't have any idea why it is occurring.

My understanding of the sill rust issue our cars have is due to the fact water gets in the sills and sits in there, then they rust from inside out. One way water gets in (I think) is because water runs down the rain rail and down the two pipes at the end of the rain rail and somehow...

These pictures will give you a good idea of what the internal structure of the Sill is on the Mk1 MX5, the MX2 is very similar, they will also show you how a correct repair should be carried out

The mk2 has an advisory on the last MOT of corrosion on the rear sills

I have had a look and the drivers side has bubbles underneath, the passenger side has some smaller bubbling

I have tin worm on both rear arches , and some where they attatch to the sills. Its not the end of the world yet and i have started to patch up with fibreglass and filler.I will layer up with the fibreglass and when finished will look fine.However i know its better to have new metal welded .

So whilst inbetween coats in the wheel arch I jacked the whole car up and had a look underneath. I have found two patches of rust that my screwdriver was able to go through at the front of the car, behind the sill, (Im new to this so not sure the name of the part) hopefully the picture will explain...

Hi, I am going to cut out the rust on my Mk1 sill and wheel arch but was wondering how to remove the panel edges that are spot welded like the wheel arch lip. Do I grind away the metal until it leaves the panel behind or do I leave the lip in place and fit the new panel over the top and plug weld...

I have a 1996 mk1 with good sills etc but have just noticed the inner box section has been crushed most probably by incorrect jacking at some point. Is this likely to cause problems for MOT etc. the metal does seem very solid all around as it is all well protected by waxoyl

Bought some Autotek alloy wheel paint (branded specifically for alloys) from motor spares place just around the corner from me, along with some lacquer. Got home, read the can......and the alloy wheel paint says lacquer top coat CAN NOT be applied afterwards.

It's a semi gloss finish, so I guess...
