Hiya, hope all is well. Apologies for the long message - I'm looking for a hand!
Been a proud owner of a nice blue arctic mk 2.5 for about a year now and recently made the move to Manchester!
The poor thing drives fine but makes some mysterious complaintive noises from the front end in a pattern I cannot really work out...
From some layman's research I've found forums like this one and am hoping to be pointed in the direction of someone with capable hands to take a look near me - the Mazda-mender name always seems to come up!
It all started when I noticed my car pulled to the right under braking. Made sense, front brakes were an advisory on recent MOT. Had front discs and pads changed, and the mechanic noticed ceasing on the front right, so lubricated it and told me to keep an eye on it. I'm starting to think that wasn't enough because it has started to pull again under heavier braking. That aside, some different funny noises have emerged!
Namely, one day I used full left steering lock and it made an awful scrape noise, but not one full right lock. Another day, the scrape-ish noise occurs on the right lock?! I originally attributed the scraping noises to the brakes wearing in, but...
Around the same time as this, what I interpreted to be a squeaky belt (which does occur if driven without a warm-up 5 mins, I might add) started occurring when making turns at certain angles, then even at certain speeds in straight lines, and even over certain bumps and lane changes on the motorway!!! That said, the belt seems pretty tight to me - but then I am no mechanic (yet).
So - having read a little about all these things, I'm wondering if the auxiliary belt powering the power steering is bad (?), or maybe there're more issues to check than I feel comfortable doing myself - hence the plea for help!
All best,
Henry
What you put in, you'll get back ten fold

Ok, welcome first, the pulling does sound like a brake issue, I am assuming they are the so called large sports brakes on the Artic edition, they are very temperamental calipers and need to be looked after and serviced regularly, if like you say that you have not had her long, then you are sorting issues from previous ownership which is now the nature of the beast all new owners deal with as they are not new roadsters but all easy sort able.
The correct lube for the brakes is a biggy to stay on top of them correct,as is servicing them correct.
The noise on lock could be a number of things and to be honest would be far better for me to see her in the flesh.
The sqeeky belt cold be either aux belts, when were they last done?
Where in Manchester are you?

Re: New here and to Manny! Need some work done tho...!!
Thanks for the response, that's helpful... I wasn't aware of the up-rated brakes.. If you could point me in the right direction for products to service them with, that would be very handy indeed for future!
As for servicing, there is no history with the car at all - part of the reason I got it for such a reasonable price... The car has now passed 70k miles so I may go as far as saying I doubt the belts have ever been changed.
The noise during steering is a sort of scraping noise, easiest to describe it like a train going over points (eek). I have a video of it but I would be very happy for you to see these issues in the flesh and discuss what to do about them.
I'm in central Manchester City so don't mind bringing the car to you if you'd be happy to do that.
All very best,
H
