Project 16 arrives at Wayne mansion White 1.8 Mk 1,which is for Ashleigh
Welcome to build 16....
So the search for a half decent white MK1 import as come to an end after finding her posted up on the mx5 OC forum by accident.... message sent and phone calls made and a deal struck..
Thanks to Andrey for going out of his way last Saturday to go and get her ,pay for her and get her to that there London so I could start arranging collection with our friendly flat bad main man John who ran down there early this morning to bring her back here for 12.30pm .
Will run through an easement of the good ,bad and ugly tomorrow and the reason why the search for her even started.
She as 109km (around 60,000 miles) red badge Eunos Roadster, 1.8 5 spd manual box in white PT.1993 L reg, so one of the first 1.8 roadsters off the production line for the JDM.
She will be for Ashleigh as after building the red one for her I was told that she does not want a red car, she wants a white one...so the search started and in the middle of the search I found a yellow J ltd that needs my help to be a special roadster again for someone to be able to love her again, I never look really, they find me.
Ashleigh is taken by her thankfully, so welcome build 16..

Re: Build 16 arrives at Wayne mansion White 1.8 Mk 1,which is for Ashleigh
There is not much happening with her ,but more finding all the bits needed and throwing them in her, big box ordered from andrew at Autolinkmx5 for her so i can teach Ron and Daryl how to do a water pump and cam belt change from off her, changed the front indicator units for better ones with looms that were not broken on the side lights, engine bay Jizza cleaned so i can see what i am dealing with, as there is history signs ....
Wrong seats are fitting so a search for 1.8 seats starts and some door cards...and she needs a new skin...
THe super duper door bump stops that owners are getting ripped off with, will be going straight in the bin, both rear sills and a arch have been done? passenger is filler and the moon is smoother, they are separating and waving plus there is battery dents, so they will be all cut out and done correct and documented, may need a newer rear bumper as it as been kissed and some point..
Door mirrors want swapping to electric and a nice leather steering wheel, wheels will be swapped from the MK 2 rims, low pro head lights installed, twin exit zorst and other sensible items fitted for her as she directs on what she wants and how she wants it to look, ( to reason) while i make sure its all correct, solid and safe.

Re: Build 16 arrives at Wayne mansion White 1.8 Mk 1,which is for Ashleigh
Rear lights swapped out, front side lights swapped out on request, rear temp switch swapped out to start having a nosey of why the fan is not kicking in ( not cured it)? thermostat will be changed at strip down any way and housing , wheels swapped...there is not much being done on her just yet as i concentrate on Andrews Sspec...
Strange goings on with the temp gauge as it moved with the revs from H to C , the sensor wire had pulled loose from a crimp connection? so soldered a more solid permanent one in and it works again...

This is going to be a lovely car
Not a fan of the 15" 5-spoke Enkei's? My favourite stock wheel, look lovely on a Mk1

Re: Project 16 arrives at Wayne mansion White 1.8 Mk 1,which is for Ashleigh
Project 16... Ashleigh's 1.8 white MK1...
Well what can I say, soooooooo many bodges and c*CK ups to sort...engine build on hold as I need thermostat body coolant hoses and clips and front engine covers as the ones on are fudged thanks to one of the last owners Brian dead logic and handy work....
The L piece added to the water pump outlet was in C*CK and had never sealed from day one of mission tight ar*e c*ck up which was just jammed in c*ck eyed not tapped and turned in and the other tight ar*e c*CK up was the removal of the thermostat housing to add a wonderful T piece that once again was just just pushed in with a wish and a prayer which was to big so the hose was catching the P/S belt...and was re-fitted to the engine block with to small a O ring seal so they had added clear sealant,so to do all this they would of needed to remove the pulleys, covers, cam belt, cam pulleys, back plate,c*CK it up and refit seriously c*cking up as you go and not fitting anything correct ,bolts missing and loose etc , so all the engine covers were fitted top to bottom so rubbed badly to destroy them...left the original OE pump on and ignored the cam seals and crank seal that is pi**ING out oil...but Changed the rocker cover seal??????
If this went to a garage for this work ,don't ever go again, if this was an owner , please sell all you tools and knock down your man den, and never raise a spanner to a car again, and do not do anything on the house you own.
All the gear and no idea with a lonely brain cell..
Jizza cleaned the thick oil from the bottom of the engine,
Water pump done, new thermostat housing, new thermostat, new water pump inlet, flushed back and forth, tension, idler and spring, cam belt, cam seals, crank seals, rocker seal,CAS seal, items cleaned and repainted,
Any way....pics...
Engine covers replaced and all built back up cleaning and sorting the nuts and bolts and brackets also as i go from either loose ,missing ore wrong, just waiting on the pulleys to dry and re-fit to fit new Aux belts, add coolant and start the service also, brakes next after all this, sort out the front end with the nose cone with how it is attach or lack of it including the magic that was going on with the undertray?( going straight in the bin) replace all the front wing bolts, new seats are here, so HU and speakers to throw in, remove the alarm/immobilizer, add low pros, wheels have been changed, add rear wing , add electric mirrors, windscreen surround black, better roof, suspension, and a very good sort out with boots and bushes if needed including the sway bars strut brace, and later to strip clean and underseal including box sections including removing dead seam sealer and making good and adding fresh where needed as a now common thing to do, rear sills and arches will need sorting, inner workings of bothe doors will need service and a new roof and rain rail, alignment and i am sure other crap as i go will raise their heads to sort...

Re: Project 16 arrives at Wayne mansion White 1.8 Mk 1,which is for Ashleigh
Crank and water pump pulleys finally dry to be able to be re-fitted and tightened up once they were under pressure of the Aux belts... apexi intake added/fitted...new bonnet prop hinge/holding clip added..the prop looked like it needed a refresh ,so took that back to metal and re painted it ,just waiting on it to dry.
Temp sensor to fit, fresh coolant and clear air locks, then I'll carry on with the service next...

Re: Project 16 arrives at Wayne mansion White 1.8 Mk 1,which is for Ashleigh
Bonnet prop and new holding hinge clip fitted,OE strut brace, and the correct seats...just waiting on some lightening makers to finish the service and get some coolant in,
Massive thank to David burkinshaw for going out of his way to grab these seats for me and hold them and to my good lady for picking them up for Ashleigh's build....thank you both, it is very very much appreciated....
My phone died on me to show pics of them fitted as the seats that were in are MK2 seats so needed the MK1 1.8 seats for the speakers and the fact that it's is right now...
The Others seats are up for grabs if anyone is interested, make me an offer on them....
