The spring (or whatever it is) has gone on lid for the cup holder nearest the arm-rest on my Mk2.5. I haven't taken it off to see what's happened yet. I'd guess it's not actually a spring as it usually springs open and closed.
Any idea what I need to fix and/or replace?

It will be one of the plastic lugs that holds the springs at either end, fixed with a stubby screw or small nut and bolt, common thing to happen buddy, you need to take it out to repair it.
