Flaking clear coat

Postby Tony Rama » Wed Apr 07, 2021 12:19 pm

Got the dreaded clear coat flake. A bit disappointed really. It's the only car I've actually waxed a couple of times a year, and for about 7 out of the 10 years I've owned it, it has been garaged from Oct to Mar. Can't afford a respray. Is there anything I can DIY? Engine, running gear and handling are all fine. But now it looks a complete wreck.

geeez, thats not looking too good. Not seen any as bad as that for a while.

Unless someone out there has had to deal with similar, I would say its a body shop job or some serious diy elbow grease.

Looks like the spray job was not prepared correct before applying the clear coat, if the roadster is solid then it is worth investigating in a re spray..

Thanks for the replies. Ideally, I would like a complete respray, but I'm skint. Just wondering what diy solutions are viable. Can I effectively remove the remainder of the clear coat in some way? Can a reasonable finish of clear coat be applied with rattle cans? I could stretch to buying a compressor and spray gun, but I've never used one. A bit stuck really. Could do with some hands on advice in the Watford area.
