Mk2.5 Super LSD

Postby Stigg » Sat Mar 14, 2015 5:50 pm

Just taken my diff apart and found broken tabs from the drive plates inside and on the magnet. Is it possible to buy replacement plate for this diff carrier (Tochigi Fugi super LSD) and if not what options are there ??

It is just a case of replacing the diff, which will be dear and we think it is down to MOT time on the roller or brake/handbrake testing that is bringing on the problem, so as long as you tell them to test her the same as a 4 x 4 you should not have any more problems with another good one fitted, or fit a Mk 2 LSD which is far stronger and does not have the issue of the Mk 2.5 LSD.
Hope that helps?

Hmm, still a pain in the A---, would have thought that it should be strong enough to stand the roller brake testing, although I guess it will wind the diff pretty hard.
What type of carrier is in the Mk2, If it is stronger….what sort of power/torque could a Mk2 diff take ? Or should I look at an RX7 as I think they have bigger stub shafts too ?

What are you thinking of doing to be thinking about what power it will take?

Ultimately an engine swap…..for a track day/sunday car, nothing too mad as I want to use the standard 6speed box (Trying to keep it stock from bell housing back). I just want a strong reliable back end…with a LSD.
It's to go in my MK1, bought a MK2.5 for the Diff, gearbox and better front geometry. Just got rear subframe and wishbones back from powder-coat, bare uprights ready for paint. Bush kit and more new bolts due Mon…..£££
Just didn't want to find scrap metal inside the diff this morning GRRRR

Personally i would use the Mk 2 lsd ,it is far stronger and lasts, fitted to the R.S and V.S versions and some UK spec
high end.
Andy at Autolink should have a couple sitting around, ,Personally i would not put faith in the MK 2.5 LSD for giving it some beens, if one of those lugs gets jammed in the gearing, i don't even want to think about it to be honest.
I am sure others will not agree, but chucks of metal floating about in gearing is not a healthy option for me.

What does the MK2 look like and what type is it ? Prob go to PH Sportscars at Derby (That's who I got the MK2.5 from) See if he will do me a swap on the carrier.
If not might look at the Ashcroft ATB.
I'd spent a while cleaning up the rusty nose of the diff, before taking off the back alloy mounting for bead blasting, thence found the bits of tab from the cones. Still GRRRRR a day later..

The earlier Mk2.5s used the same TorSen as Mk1/2. I think they switched to the Fuji around 2002/3.
