That brings back memories! But I can't remember where it was specifically.
I don't have a lot of photos of my current car - it's not very photgenic - its got lots of bumps and scrapes.
It is however a great car to drive both on road and on track. The handling is spot on (Gaz gold pros, racing beat ARBs, 20mm hubcentric spacers and Uniroyal Rainsport 3s). In the championship I'm competing in this year, there are typically 15 MX-5s at each event and I've managed a very respectable mid-table time at each one. That's against guys running sticky track tyres which i hope to run next season.
I've had one or two little things to sort out since I got the car. A couple of coolant leaks (bottom hose, oil cooler hose - PITA!), a misfire and rough running (new coil pack, leads, new O2 sensor, vacuum hose and valve shimming).
I do have a couple of issues to work on over the winter - main thing is the oil smoke on over-run. It's not burning enough oil for me to be worried - I can keep it topped up between events easily but it I know it's just gonna get worse over time. Compression is good at 175/180psi on all four cylinders.
I'm also going to need to do the chassis rails at some point. There is a bit of scabbing just starting to form but as the car won't be run over winter, I'm hoping that injecting with Bilt Hamber in between the seams will keep it at bay. I don't really want to spend much time/money on bodywork because I could prang the car badly at any event! In fact, I spent most of Sunday dismantling parts off my scrap car to give to a fellow competitor who did have a bad prang on Saturday. Fortunately his car was the same colour and age as my scrapper!
Other plans for me include fitting a proper harness, kirkey race seat and some sticky tyres for a proper assault on the championship next year.
