Mk1 NA***RESTORATION***
Re: Mk1 restoration
Finished up the underside of the car today. All patched up, new seam sealer applied, rust treated and painted with anti corrosion stone chip paint.
Easy on its side rather than laid underneath it.
Then got her back on her wheels and raised the front in order to drop the sub frame for cleaning up and replacement of key components.
Good days work IMO.

Re: Mk1 restoration
Front suspension stripped. First job top Wishbone’s . De-bushed using the treaded bar and pair of sockets approach.
Wishbones then shot blasted.
Then a coat or two of red zine oxide primer
And finally tonight a couple of coats of chassis black.

Hi mate, yes intend to change all the bushes. I have a spare set of rear wishbones and sub frame purchased from eBay that I need to bush and the rather that cut a corner and regret it later decided to do everything.
On the advice of Mm I’m going the rubber bush route. The car is for road use and hence wanted it to be compliant with our “smooth” uk roads. I understand the polybushes whilst simple to install can be very “crashie”
I’m aso intending to go the MeisterR shock route as well.

Re: Mk1 restoration
thanks for the info, I too will go down the standard bush route, their expensive though, meisters are not in my league.
Re: Mk1 restoration
Found time to remove the bushes from the bottom wishbones and sand blast before priming.
Then moved on to the front subframe, sand blast, prime and then chassis black top coat.
Please with my progress.

Re: Mk1 restoration
Started on my engine bay prep. Easy access with the engine and front sub frame removed.
So like all engine bays, a mix of grease, traffic film, oil, and rust.
Bit of elbow grease and the results
However, once painted it’s all got to go back together, and as I’m not the quickest at these jobs I decided a bit of time carefully labelling all the bolts, nuts, gomments, and plastic clip and making a photographic record. Finally, bolts pushed into a piece of cardboard for save keeping.

Attention to detail will definitely pay dividends when putting it back together.
My now ex '96 Gleneagles MeisterR Coilovers - engine bling stainless mx5parts full exhaust
Re: Mk1 restoration
Front chassis legs, arches and front bumper mount all ready for stone chip paint. De rusted, rust converter and then etch primer and new seam sealer.
All masked up as I will gloss the engine bay later.
All protected for a few years.
