Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
All the bits turned up from Autolinkmx5 so I had everything ready for the rest to be attacked, yeah well the next box is on its way now.... Nose cone off time to see what mess lurks behind....this was mainly done to sort the bonnet cable as it was tough to pull so figured it was re-routed wrong from the nose cone swap at some point over here from when she was imported with in 2008 with 41,200 miles on her.
It started to be obvious from the off that the last owner had "had a go" with limited know how of these roadsters, i remember him with passion telling me he had undersealed her,,,yeah in selected areas, any way i won't make this a sl*g fest ...its a project, wants more than i thought now but its keeping my mind off the madnees and doom and gloom with the sh*t the Chinese have given the world yet again, it's all just a man made mess.
The first thing i noticed was the lack of correct fixings and the over spray on the front weather strip and bumper bolt down slam panel, so passenger side arch liner off so i can unbolt the wing from the nose cone( drivers was already done as it was all missing) removed the 10mm nut on the corner of the front weather stripe and the nose cone fell away without removing the weather stripes...the brackets on the roadster had been cut, so they will need sorting, so rubbed down the nose cone slam panel support and painted it and the weather stripes after removing the wrong bolts, so while they was drying i went to remove the impact bumper with only 5 bolts holing it is place???
On deeper inspection someone had gone wild with a grinder which also explained that the passenger side baby tooth was on the drivers side...so the impact bumper came off as did the baby tooth to be rubbed down and paint which i also found a drivers side and did the same, i went the remove the front rail covers 10mm to find one bolt snapped and one missing??? which had been cut out with a dremmel by the looks of it?????, so that will need to be welded back up correct, on removal of the covers it was then clear to see why there was only 5 bolts holding the impact bumper ,so they will need to be binned and fresh fitted with fresh bolts, so did a bit of de rusting and making good before i apply underseal, which with a smile i say there is not much rust, so I rerouted the bonnet release cable correct rubbed down and re-painted the latch and support bracket, and horn brackets, then turned my attention to drilling out and re-tapping all the snapped bolts.... 7 in total...the backs of the wings and front sills were hit with paint for the time beingnot my doing, there was some bad open wires on the drivers side headlights that had clearly been a while as it had oxidized, so sorted that
I noticed another snapped bolt on the wing which i'll have to get when the passenger wing is off, doors are all back together again, all greased up and lubed, ,back deck panel is back in place, as is the carpet and all fixings, 1.6 bonnet prop bent into place to fit a 1.8 and re-painted, had a check around, directional tyres on wrong, brakes lift of springs and shims missing, undersealing well less said really on that subject , wrong drop link bolts on rear, bolts missing from the rear brace bar x 4, , bolt falling out of a rear wishbone???, rear arch liners missing, fitted up the rear spats, but also noticed there is a very nice Mazdaspeed zorst on her.
As i have said before the plan is to build her up so i know everything is in place and nothing missing before stripping to sort her out....there is more than likely loads more I have done ,but can not remember off hand.....pics to follow....

The standard Mazda Mender approach in full swing.
If a job needs doing it needs doing right.

1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.
Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
Straight home, very light traffic, very surreal at the minute going home and into work this morning....but any way....home , chemical suit off, changed and jizza clean out to get the bay clean so I could see what i need to deal with....and it is not to bad , amazing what a clean does....
All coolant hose will be changed any way as they are OE and age related , coolant flush and engine flush, full service including seals, pump, bearings and belts, and anything else i spot, i'll take pics of everything any way for another cambelt/water pump change walk through to go with the MK 1 1.6 guide( another reason why it was cleaned)......

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
So the weekend , that started on friday after work...the brackets i needed arrived so i could make some templates up for the brackets that had been cut down, so my thanks to Gaz .. North Yorkshire mx5's for getting out the brackets needed so fast so i could make up a template to repair the ones that were butchered/missing off the project "zone out from all the cr*p going on" roadster for some reason they were cut off?...with a captive nut also that was cured with a nut welded onto a large penny washer ,and cut into shape both S/S and welded on which will out last the roaster...newer clips fitted to the air guide as the others were rotten and needed a bush with a grinder to let go... My thanks also to Autolinkmx5 for sending items out so quick that were needed....Mk2 impact bumper guides used (the ones that were on had 3 impact bumper bolts cut off and were not for moving) and the guide points cut down to clear...and the front end is all back together again right with nothing missing bar the undertray that needed repair before going on , from years of not being secured correct making it hang down and catch the floor, more solid now...brakes all striped, serviced and painted... all done .. and a few other bits , fuel filter while i was under there, rear heat shield removed ,painted and refitted with the correct bolts, rear drivers side top wishbone bolt removed and replaced, as were the drop link c*ck up nuts and bolts for the correct ones , rear brace bar bolts that were missing fitted and the others removed and greased to, spotted a cat nut missing? so a search for the correct nut and fitted, and started to rub down the wiper arms for re-painting, just need to bleed off the brakes and reset the handbrake lever...engine next then partial under sealing and finish off after cosmetics are finished....when this blows over when we all get a vaccination???
And before the righter than right gang jump on the fact that the "whole" of the disks are painted , there is a reason, because of the situation we all find our selves in, this roadster once i have done what i do will be sitting around for a long long time before i can get her to the body shop, so seems silly after all this hard work to let everything rust up, so it is acting as a protector until we can move around again and i'll clear where the brake pads will make contact then and only then.
Pics to follow....

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
Easter weekend , some time off at last...
Water pump ( well needed), idler ,tensioner, spring and o ring, cam belt...all coolant hoses, cleaned and re-sprayed the metal coolant pipe, all flushed and back flushed, fresh coolant and air locks out, new crank, cam ,CAS and rocker seals fitted, everything cleaned and greased as rebuild new Aux belts ( they were desperate ), spark plugs changed (desperate), oil and filter changed, air filter changed... dail faces changed, number plates added, found a better bonnet prop holding clip and a general sort and tidy here and there...
The correct seat bolts were fitted and wavy washers, Heated rear window pig tail made up and wired in...
Now the Water pump, as soon as the first bolt cam out and pulled free with good old c*ck up seal for dummies,i knew this was not going to be straight forward... why oh why do people use this cr*p, they had even put it on the outlet and o ring??? and what makes it even worse is that there was a paper seal so they used both??? and if you take a close look at the bottom of the engine and pump it is clear that it had been weeping for a good long while with the oxidization that needed to be cleaned up to the alloy, all the tools and no idea, cannot put this down to the last owner as he mentioned that the service and pump etc needed doing so it was the owner before him or a garage, please please please do not use this cr*p on your cars, get the correct seals and do it right, this stuff is for morons and dummies...
Any way....loads of pics...

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
Just a quick play after work... finished prepping the wiper arms and deflector and added paint, i'll fit them tomoz....
Oh and the head rest speakers have arrived, so i'll be fitting and wiring them in from scratch over the weekend, then i am down to just the undersealing, injecting box sections, swapping the zorst , new windscreen scuttle ,and the odds and sods, and then waiting to get her in the body shop for full paint, so in the mean time i am searching for a set of rims for her..
