ABS light on

My ABS light is now on all the time

I bought one of the OBD readers as suggested but even though it seems to see and read the engine it says there are no error codes.

MOT is towards the end of March so I really need to get this one sorted, as always , your input is greatly valued

All you need to check it is a paper clip. Bridge across the appropriate terminals and count the flashes. There was a list of error codes somewhere but I can't find them at the moment.

What Mk is it? as OBD port is only on 2.5 or later. I am not sure if checking procedure is the same. You can also confirm diagnostic by metering resistance at the plug to see if it has gone open circuit.

Ok just found the codes-not sure if it is the same on a 2.5 though.

MX5 ABS check
To check for DTC on the ABS system on MX-5 turn ignition switch to off, bridge the TBS and GND terminals in the DIAGNOSTIC socket under the bonnet, turn the ignition switch to on and count the groups of flashes on the ABS lamp. Long flashes count tens, short flashes count units. To clear DTC, allow all codes to be output (flash codes repeat) then with ignition switch still on, press and release the brake pedal 10 times at less than 1 second intervals.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes are as follows
05 - Brake Switch open circuit
11 - Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Open circuit or Short to power supply
12 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Open circuit or Short to power supply
13 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Open circuit or Short to power supply
14 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Open circuit or Short to power supply
15 - Wheel Speed Sensor, Sensor Rotor
22 - Front Right Solenoid Valve Signal (AV)
23 - Front Right Solenoid Valve Signal (EV)
24 - Front Left Solenoid Valve Signal (AV)
25 - Front Left Solenoid Valve Signal (EV)
26 - Rear Solenoid Valve Signal (AV)
27 - Rear Solenoid Valve Signal (EV)
41 - Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Rotor Short to ground or Disagreement with other sensors is detected
42 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Rotor Short to ground or Disagreement with other sensors is detected
43 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Rotor Short to ground or Disagreement with other sensors is detected
44 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Rotor Short to ground or Disagreement with other sensors is detected
51 - Valve Relay fault
53 - Motor monitor fault
61 - ABS Control Module fault
63 - ABS Module Power Supply Malfunction

Not really an option Wayne. I keep thinking about the OBD reader, why wouldn't it show a code ? Does it need to be a more expensive one maybe. I tried various software but none can find any codes.

I hit this a lot when no fault codes show from the Mk 1 to the 2.5's so i now keep a lot of tester items in stock to do some swapping with until i find the fault, my guess at this without being able to to get my hands on her will be a wheel sensor on the near side/pessenger side which gets all the puddles and crap.
They are a simple unplug in the the inner wing to test another, bit more involved with the rears as boot trim needs to be removed to get to the plug and a small child sent in to unplug LOL

I thought you could get the ABS system to do a flash code by jumping in the diagnostics box, same way you do with the engine & airbag systems...

Booked in with the MX5 Restorer next Saturday , see if they can find the dodgy sensor , if it is that. Will let you all know

Took it to the Mx5restorer Saturday and although the ABS issue wasn't solved as no error codes showed up, they did find a dodgy rear wheel bearing.
The wobble from the bearing could be causing the ABS sensor to trigger and is being replaced this weekend, so will update then.

I love how a sensor can send you on a mission of discovery, all good fun

Wheel bearing fixed......ABS light still on Going back tomorrow for a sensor check the ol fashioned way. Funny thing is , today the Mrs said the warning light is on in the Peugeot, it's the ABS light.

Set off to the Mx5Restorer on Saturday and realised the ABS light was off. As I'd only traveled 5 miles I thought, nothing new, it'll pop on any time soon. (It's been on for a month).

Drove all the way to Pevensey and still no light, well, if no light is on, no point in checking the sensors. Well I have a dilemma, my MOT has a day to run so I'm thinking drive back to Tonbridge and try to get it done. Luckily , Chris managed to book me in with their MOT guys so it was done within the hour , it was a case of fingers crossed and the ABS light didn't come on. It still hasn't and that's 4 days ago !

If your wondering why it could've cured itself I'm wondering the same. My thoughts are as follows.

Last Friday on entering Tonbridge high street the traffic was bad, so I did a 3 point turn and took the bypass. I whacked the curb and scuffed my front ns alloy in the process . I'm wondering if this bang sorted my ABS problem ?

Your thoughts although the light could still come back on . Seems fixed though


Secondly, my pug 206 failed it's MOT on Tuesday. That is until the bloke drove the car out to the car park and said, ''the ABS light has gone off so I'll pass it'' !!!!! I feel like it's christmas
