Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
Seats out to tidy up the wires and secure into place so they do not get caught on the slider mech, cleaned and lubed the runners before bolting them back in place, all connected up and working as if they had been fitted at the factory, it took me longer to hoover it out before dropping the seats in because at some point it looked like someone had a some jack Russel in there that was white so i had to pick the hairs out to hoover them up,...back breaking, speaker grills re-sprayed and the strikers etc to neaten things up, cleaned and lubed the sun visor arms and refitted and just a bit of a tidy up while sorting other things to others, as i lost Saturday due to cr*ppy weather....

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
I am down to the protection and cosmetics, so now that i know nothing is missing, I can start the process of stripping down to start the de-rusting and protecting, she is in very good nick just not had that love and attention she as needed, plus the " have a go hero's" that have is very hit and miss, more so the applying underseal and paint on top of rust, it makes the process sooooooooo much more interesting and far longer than it really needed to be to sort items...
So any way whats been done....
Stripped her back down, all under shields off , arch liners, mudgaurds, rear and front bumpers, front wings, zorst and cat, arch liners and all underneth trim etc etc, sorted the new wing studs that were missing/snapped and cut down to size, de-rusted cleaned and sprayed the rad mounts, rear tie down hoops and body sections, and rear under brace, the backs of the front wings, the inner wing sections, and removed the pillar to wing seal as i noticed it had lifted which reveled a lot of surface rust that needed sorting /treating and sealing back up....Heat shields rubbed back and sprayed including the heat sensor cat bracket, all nuts and bolts underneath removed and grease then put back, cut and drilled out the stud/nut that would not budge from the cat and drilled out and added a new nut and bolt, removed the heat shield at the same time as it was rattling so thats ready to be refitted, one screw gave me a bit of hassle, but with a quick cut with the drammel it was out ,hassle gone, the repainting of the brace and tie down hoops etc was a right royal pain as the last owner thought it would be a great idea to underseal over rust so the process was scrape off with a knife and then use the grinder with a flappy disc, dremmel , files and sand paper before prepping and painting, all i ave done is shower ,blow the crap out of my nose and pick it out of my hair..
The zorst will be up for grabs when all this lot is over, so i am at the stage of deep cleaning the whole of the underneath, de-rusting where need ,treating ,sealing and undersealing, then box sections, find a set of better rims and fit tyres ,, body shop for a full hit of pint and cosmetics sorting, full alignment and MOT, and what ever elst grabs my attention to detail along the way...someone is going to get a very well sorted roadster to use and enjoy..
Pics to follow...

I need to take into account the whole cost and time...but not a conversation for the open board.

Excellent work Mr Mender.
Might have to drop mine off for a Mazda Mender once over and service before our hopeful trip to my see my mate in Northern Italy next year.
Was hoping to be in a position to add this one to my fleet but Covid19 has hit me like many others in our pockets.
Maybe the next one !!!

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
I am prepped and ready to underseal then cavity wax , she is up on the big daddy axle stands for more room****WARNING FOR THOSE WITH A WEAK STOMACH AND DO NOT LIKE THE THOUGHT OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE...PLEASE LOOK AWAY NOW AS THERE IS A LOT OF DIFFERENT LUBES BEING USED WHICH IS MAINLY COPPER GREASE***** ...all nuts and bolts cracked ,removed, greased and put back in each corner and some more from underneath..underneath de-rusted of all surface rust etc..rust converter on and painted ready for the underseal...found a bracket that had surface rust on so i had to clean and paint it..( when is going to far ..to far? );0)......
The new drop links had not been fitted correct, so when they had been put under pressure because of the angle the billies sit at the body of the link was pulling away from the bush at the sway bar, so on removing nuts and bolts to solve the problem , i seated the bush back in place and rebuilt with a 32mm 10 m s/steel washer to stop it drifting back off, the same process can be used when fitting NB bottom wishbones to a MK 1 and MK 1 drop links for more support , need to do the the rears also and still need to change the oil in the gearbox and diff before the undersealing gun comes out to play.... I am glad i go so far as the norm as he looks like he had fitted new bottom ball joints but on the drivers side the were loose, so now even though I check, I am doubly checking everything now as i have no faith in what the last chap as tried to do from finding to many things not finished or missing.....
The damper bushes on the billies and dust boot are in great condition, as usually they are deformed from the angle that the dampers sit at and anyone that works on these alot will get just how nice this is....the 10mm that hold the earth cable on the BBF just cracked and turned out with my fingers.
Templates cut ready for the undersealing at the front, so I am good to go, the inner wings and the backs of the wings will be done as will the full front with the bumper off and rear bumper, just finding the time after work.

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
So undersealing all done including the inner wings and the backs of the front wings, the rear bumper support also got removed, rubbed down, treated, painted and hit with underseal, front and back rails etc, left half the rear arches to be done after repairs and paint are finished including the cavity wax, so the search for some rims start as she gets parked up for the time being...

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
Down now to the nitty gritty bits on my lists...
The Mk2.5 skin was sun bleached from being stowed on a back shelf so un sun bleached it..looks like i might be getting the welder out myself now to sort where the last owner and been....the body shop i use is no more..so fabrication time now...but i will not be touching paint...so i need to start searching...
Pics are back to front ....view from bottom to top or it looks like i am re-dying it white...

Re: New project arrives at Wayne mansion, 96,1.8 green badge S spec in M8
There was something just not right and missing...so dug out a boot lid with spoiler and fitted it ready for spraying as the boot lid is black and the spoiler was red...also had the door cards off the spray the speaker grills and jumped on opportunity to have a play with my polisher/detailer on the bad paint work ( only had it 3 years)...great fun and a masive difference....but would not want to do it everyday...
